“GAP” Good Agriculture Practices
Ross Wileman from Mission Produce will address Good Ag Practices including how pesticides fit into GAP, followed by Tim York, President of Markon Cooperative, who has taken a leadership role in the U.S. food safety movement.

Updates on Pests and Pesticides
Dr. Joe Morse, UCR Entomology Department will present information on new pesticides. Dr. Akif Eskalen, with the UCR Department of Plant Pathology, will discuss updates on the Laurel Wilt Disease that poses a serious threat to the industry.  A panel comprised of Drs. Morse and Eskalen, and local PCA’s will answer questions presented.

Soil Management-Fertilizers
Rob Mikkelsen, International Plant Nutrition Institute will discuss fertilizers and plant health, sources, types and costs.  Followed by a grower panel discussing their successes and fertilizer preferences for optimum production and tree health.

The Costs of Conventional and Organic Farming
Eta Takele, UCCE – Riverside will present economic study of producing avocados using conventional and organic farming.  A panel of local farm managers, fertilizer supply company, growers, etc. will discuss how costs and income have changed over the past several years and what growers can do to maximize their returns.
